The US Supreme Court recently quashed bans on same sex marriage in individual US states, making same sex marriage legal throughout the US. One judge in Tennessee, clearly unhappy with that ruling, has blocked a divorce petition on the illogical basis that as the Supreme Court has redefined what marriage is, it must also clarify when a marriage can be ended.
The judge involved has rightly been accused of 'unnecessary grandstanding' and using the case to express his personal views on a matter which isn't actually directly related to divorce laws. It will be interesting to see what the consequences are.
