Judges have ruled a Birmingham divorcee can keep the £3.5 million awarded to her in a divorce settlement - despite having a new partner
Karen Hart was awarded her part of the £10 million family fortune when she split from property mogul John Hart after 24 years of marriage. Mr Hart appealed and claimed the award was unfair as his wife was living with another man - and should now look to him for financial support instead.Mrs Hart insisted she needed the £3.5 million to remain “financially independent” of her new partner and not be forced into marrying him by lack of funds. She has won the backing of Sir James Munby in the Appeal Court, who ruled the “presence of her new partner in her life did not diminish her needs” financially as a single woman.
