Thousands of women in unhappy marriages are choosing not to divorce, a study has found.
With diminishing chances of winning a bumper share of a husband’s wealth, many wives now prefer to try to rebuild their marriage rather than risk a break-up.
And fast-rising numbers of successful professional and business women are increasingly reluctant to hand over any of their earnings or assets in the wake of a divorce from a less well-off husband, the study found.
This is an interesting study but a lot of it is based on the "tide" shifting in relation to maintenance payments. Historically these have been quite high and long-term and mostly paid by wealthy men to their ex-wife. The courts no longer want maintenance to be a "meal ticket for life". The interesting point in relation to this article though is that this will of course have to apply in reverse to wealthy women who may have to pay some maintenance to their ex-husband. There are also different ways we help our clients reduce what capital they have to pay too. If you are concerned about your situation and would like some good advice give us a call on 0845 128 6960.
