On each of the 12 working days up to Christmas we are posting information about family law issues that we are often asked about.

Yesterday, Claire in the team, dealt with pre-marital agreements but did you know that you can have a post marital agreement too? These are agreements that couples prepare after they have got married.

These agreements can be useful for couples who didn't quite have enough time to prepare a pre-marital agreement but still want to have something that sets out what will happen to their assets, or just certain assets, if they get divorced.

The agreements are often prepared now if there is a change in a couples finances such as receipt of an inheritance, gifts of money from family members or just a need to protect certain family wealth that might be governed by a trust or family business.
