Freeths LLP Derby Clinical Negligence team together with Melanie Williams of Oxford Court of Protection team are due to be attending at Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice Marketplace event on Friday 22 March 2019.

Derbyshire Parent Carer Voice represents parents and carers within Derbyshire to ensure that services are meeting the needs of children and young people with additional needs. Their aims are to:-

  • Involve parents in service planning and decision making, so that services meet the needs of families with children with Special Needs and disabilities. Resources are then not wasted on services which parents and families do not take up.
  • Identify problems that are frequently experienced by families and use this information to influence service provision. Parent Forums do not help parents/carers with individual problems, but can signpost to people who can.
  • Ensure that effective parent participation is happening by allowing parents to have conversations with and work alongside professionals, in order to design, develop and improve services.

The marketplace event is a great opportunity to meet local service providers. Alongside Freeths LLP are due to be representatives from Umbrella, who are a local disability charity of whom we are proud to sponsor. Umbrella supports families living in Derby and surrounding areas such as the Amber Valley and the South Derbyshire Dales. The charity supports children and young adults between the ages of 5 and 30 with a wide variety of special needs including behavioural, physical and sensory needs.

Other attendees are set to include Healthwatch Derbyshire, Fairplay, Derbyshire Local Offer, Portland College, Home From Home Care, Derbyshire Information Advice & Support Service for SEND, Family Fund and many more.
