After much campaigning and the publicity around the Owens case, no fault divorce is finally on it’s way! When will this happen? “As soon as parliamentary time allows”.
Although it is not known at the moment when this much-needed change to our divorce laws will happen, particularly as the Government are currently busy trying to grapple with Brexit, the change to the law will be welcomed by many when the new legislation is finally passed.
It is anticipated that the process will introduce an option for a joint application, which will enable couples to progress with divorce without having to blame either of them for the breakdown of the marriage, or having to wait until they have been separated for 2 years.
It is hoped that the introduction of no fault divorce will remove a lot of the acrimony experienced in many divorces.
Divorce laws in England and Wales are to be overhauled so couples can split faster and, it is hoped, with less acrimony.
