Make May Purple for stroke is the Stroke Association’s annual stroke awareness month. So far this month we have shared a blog each week to help raise awareness on:

  • What is a stroke?
  • History of strokes.
  • What to do if you suspect someone is having a stroke.
  • Why is it so important to act quickly?

This blog will focus on support and assistance.

Freeths Clinical Negligence Nottingham team will be demonstrating their support by  wearing purple. Photograph to follow!

In the UK, stroke is the fourth leading cause of death and with over 100,000 strokes reported each year (equating to a stroke occurring around every 5 minutes) it is likely to have devastated someone you know or love.

The Journey following a stroke for the stroke survivor, their loved ones or families left bereaved by a stroke can be a difficult one and knowing where to look for support and guidance is crucial to rehabilitation and the rebuilding of lives for all involved. You are not alone; there are charities and support networks that can help.

The Stroke Association is a registered charity that offers many forms of support through its telephone helpline, website and information packs. It can also help to find support local to you; an invaluable tool to access long term support which can assist stroke sufferers to regain as much independence as possible.

Freeths Clinical Negligence Solicitors have a national reputation for dealing with medical claims. We are an approved solicitor for the Brain Injury Group (BIG); a registered charity established in 2011 to provide a gateway of information and support to people with brain injuries such a stroke and their families using its network of specialist lawyers and other specialist services to gain access to a complete package of support.

As specialist brain injury lawyers, we often represent vulnerable stroke survivors and appreciate how vital the role of specialist support and rehabilitation is to the patient and their carers.
