After a huge surge in applicants attempting to beat the increase, it is now not clear when the increased fees will be payable. I’m still hoping that these fees will not be implemented at all. The fee structure - tiered according to the value of the estate - seems more akin to a tax than a fee and little thought has been given to how families are to find an additional fee of up to £6,000 before they have access to the estate.
Update 18 July: The probate fees order has not been scheduled for debate in the week commencing 22 July. As this will be the final week before the UK Parliament rises for its summer recess, and the end of the parliamentary session, the order cannot now be debated or passed until parliament returns on 3 September 2019.
