From 31 December 2019, opposite-sex couples are able to register civil partnerships in England and Wales, following approval in the House of Lords on 5 November 2019. A Civil Partnership creates a legal relationship which has financial implications if the civil partnership ends, just like when a marriage is ended by divorce.
