Freeths Derby Clinical Negligence team is a corporate sponsor of Umbrella, and the Freeths Derby Office is proud to support Umbrella as their charity of the year. Umbrella supports children and young people between the ages of 5 and 30 with any special need in Derby and the surrounding areas including the Amber Valley, Erewash, South Derbyshire and the South Derbyshire Dales. Those they support include those with learning and behavioural issues, physical, sensory and other complex additional needs.

Umbrella are delighted to have agreed a 40 year community centre lease with the Derby City Council on their new building, Annie’s Place. They have completed significant works in just 9 months and Chief Executive Ann Rowlands gave special thanks to the numerous employees and volunteers of Umbrella who has made the new centre what it is today. The building was named in tribute after Annie Hall, a much loved and respected Trustee of the charity, who sadly died in floods at Darley Dale in November 2019.

On 16 November 2020 Umbrella unveiled Annie’s Place and opened its doors to the young people they support. Congratulations from all of us at the Freeths Derby office to Umbrella on this wonderful achievement. Ann Rowlands revealed the centre live on Facebook just before they opened their doors for the first time. See the following link to see for yourself:

Annie’s Place has a large open room for fun, games and group activities, an accessible kitchen, fully accessible changing area, accessible toilet, a cosy quiet room and a fantastic new sensory room (pictured). Umbrella hopes to open their new shiny doors and share their new building when Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

The aim of the centre is to offer Umbrella’s young adults an opportunity and space to learn new and more independent skills including Make, Bake and Create Tuesdays focusing on cooking and crafts, and Healthy Lifestyle Fridays focusing on cooking, meal planning, preparation, and budgeting and planning healthy activities.

The venue has allowed some Umbrella young adults to meet up with their friends again after many lonely months of only 1:1 supports during the Coronavirus pandemic. The groups are of course much smaller than usual but have put smiles on everyone's faces.

Umbrella continues to offer their Children’s services at their Umbrella House centre in Mackworth. Umbrella’s Children’s Services offers one to one support, wider community support and support in the home. Umbrella also offers fun social groups is aimed at those between 5 and 18, arranging weekend trips and play schemes throughout school holidays.
