The Freeths Derby Office is proud to support Umbrella Derby and Derbyshire as our charity of the year. The Derby Clinical Negligence team at Freeths are also a corporate sponsor of Umbrella.
Umbrella is a local disability charity that supports children and young adults between the ages of 5 and 30. A lot of those benefitting from this charity have learning and behavioural issues, physical, sensory or other complex additional needs. The organisation works to improve the quality of life not only for these disabled children and young adults but also their families. Over the years we have witnessed the fantastic support that Umbrella have provided to so many in the Derbyshire area, some of whom are even our clients. We have experienced first-hand just how invaluable their support is within our community.
Umbrella recently agreed a 40 year community lease with Derby City Council for a new support centre called Annie’s Place. This centre offers a large open room for interaction and fun for all their service users, it is a place where volunteers of the charity host games and group activities. Not only that, the centre boasts a fantastic new sensory room, a cosy room, a fully accessible kitchen and changing area and an accessible toilet.
Annie’s place also offers young adults a place to spend time with their friends and receive much needed support and somewhere to learn new independent skills including, crafts, baking, cooking and other important life skills.
Freeths Derby office are proud to have contributed to Umbrella’s fundraising efforts. Over the course of 2019 and 2020, we held various fundraisers including a bake sale, dress down days, and raffle collections, raising a total of £744.78. Freeths were delighted to learn that the money raised by the Clinical Negligence Team in Derby has been spent on new tables for Annie’s Place which are invaluable for the activities they host there. It put a smile on our faces when we received a picture of Daniel, one of the young adults, enjoying the new tables!
We are sure the venue will continue to grow as we ease out of the Coronavirus restrictions, allowing many Umbrella young adults to meet up with their friends more often and receive the 1:1 support provided by such a wonderful charity.
