Freeths LLP Derby Clinical Negligence Solicitors are proud sponsors of local disability charity, Umbrella. Umbrella supports families living in Derby and surrounding areas such as the Amber Valley and the South Derbyshire Dales. The charity supports children and young adults between the ages of 5 and 30 with a wide variety of special needs including behavioural, physical and sensory needs.

Claire Cooper and Naomi Solomon of the Derby Clinical Negligence team and Louise Calow of the Derby Real Estate team visited Umbrella’s new building on Friday 13 August. Due to the pandemic, it was the first time anyone from Freeths has been able to visit Annie’s Place since its opening in November 2020.

It was so lovely to see the new centre in person, here at Freeths we are so impressed with all the hard work that has gone into making the new centre what it is today.

Annie’s Place has a large open room for fun, games and group activities, an accessible kitchen, fully accessible changing area, accessible toilet, a cosy quiet room and a fantastic new sensory room (pictured).

The aim of the centre is to offer Umbrella’s young adults their own space to learn new and more independent skills including baking, cooking, crafts, budgeting and healthy lifestyle choices. It has been a safe place for some Umbrella young adults to meet up with their friends again after many lonely months during the lockdown period.

Understandably due to the impact of COVID, Umbrella have had reduced income this year and have been unable to fundraise as much as they would have liked. As we slowly return to normality, Umbrella are keen to fundraise as much as possible.

This wonderful charity will be celebrating their 35th anniversary and to mark the occasion they are opening Annie’s Place to the public on Saturday 9 October. It will be a ticketed event and is open to all, if you would like to book your place, please visit their website or follow the link below.
